Collection: Kaz Hughes

Tweed Coast, NSW, Australia

Kaz Hughes is an emerging acrylic artist who explores the use of bold colour and texture. Inspired by a love of nature and unruly coastal flora. She creates her own interpretations of botanical still life; wild flowers, banksias, pods, buds and seeds sprout exuberantly from rustic ceramic vessels.

Kaz photographs macro and micro images of her surrounding coastal environment and  collects ground material along my local pathways, beachfront and rocky headlands to inform my artwork. She works across several paintings simultaneously until each renders itself complete. Each piece with its own marks, its own brushstrokes, its own narrative. There is an element of wilderness within each of her gathered bushy scenes.
